JRA-55 for driving WRF

Hi,

Can anybody suggest how to use the Japanese reanalysis data, JRA-55, to drive WRF? Is there a Vtable that can be shared? Any other details that I will need to be aware of to be successful?

Bill,
We don't have the Vtable to ungrib JRA-55. The WRF user's guide provides instruction how to create Vtable. I know it is tedious and could be time-expensive. Right now we are pretty busy with some other stuff. I am not sure whether we can find time in the near future to create a Vtable for this data. It may also depend on how many people prefer to use this dataset. Is there any special reason you choose JRA-55?

Hi Ming,

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to generate a boundary dataset ensemble for a new LASSO (https://www.arm.gov/capabilities/modeling/lasso) scenario in Argentina during the CACTI field campaign (https://www.arm.gov/research/campaigns/amf2018cacti). So far, we have looked at FNL, GEFS, ERA5, and the ERA5 ensemble. We thought JRA-55 might be another good option.
