real.exe showing errors for test run

Dear Admin,

I am using WRF v4.5.1 with serial and real cases, and WPS v4.5. I downloaded January 2000 WPS output data from the test case site and trying to run the real.exe program from test/em_real directory . As directed in the user guide I copied the namelist.input.jan00 to namelist.input file; successfully linked the WPS files (met_em) into the WRF/test/em_real directory. However, when I ran the real.exe, it returned some errors showing mismatch inputs (plz see the attached). I noted from the website (WRF Test Data) that the met files were created using WPS v3.5.1. Can you please give me an idea why this mismatching is resulting?

Best regards,
Masud Rana

Please try and let us know if you still have problem.

I would also suggest that you go through the entire process, i.e., running geogrid.exe, ungrib.exe and metgrid.exe, then moving on to run real.exe and wrf.exe. This will give you a complete picture of the WPS-WRF system.

This is the problem:

You must change, in the namelist.input, the NUM_LAND_CAT, 21 for 24.
Thank you. Although it was a predefined test exercise I had to change two parameters ( NUM_LAND_CAT, and num_metgrid_level) in the namelist.input file. And after those changes, my system was able to run both the real.exe and wrf.exe successfully.

Thank you. I tried running the real.exe with changes in two parameters in the namelist.input file and was successful (attached is the success run of wrf).
In fact, I ran the geogrid.exe, ungrib.exe and metgrid.exe successfully for other test data (matthew test study). But the output met file from this test could not be run directly by the real.exe program as it was asking for more parameters in the namelist.input file. To test the real and wrf, I then downloaded the "january 2000 wps output" file.

Hi, i also had the same problem. I set NUM_LAND_CAT = 21, but get the following error. I wanna know how to change parameter num_metgrid_level?
Thank you!

"num_metgrid_level" is the number of vertical levels in your forcing data. You can find its value by the command:

ncdump met_em.d01.yyyy-mm-dd_hh:00:00 | grep num_metgrid_leve
