I tried and failed to get WRF 4.0 installed on my machine a few months ago and see there is a new version out. How can I remove all old WRF, WPS, etc. installation files/iibraries and start with a clean slate for the current version of WRF...without reinstalling the operating system on a new partition? Thank you.

Hi,
If you just remove the full WRF directory, that should get rid of the full WRF installation. You can use the command:
rm -rf WRF
(or whatever the name of your WRF directory is).
Alternatively, you can just compile the newer version in its own directory and keep the older one until you make sure you've got it all built and running correctly.
