Running Ungrib With mpi

Hello,

I'm trying to process HRRR data, however I noticed it takes a very long time to run ungrib (over an hour). I am trying to run it using mpi, but I was wondering if there's another way to use it that could potentially speed it up? Also, if mpi is the best option, could you use hyperthreading?

Use mpi it can significantly reduce the processing time by distributing the workload across multiple processors.

Per NCAR user guide. Using it in parallel makes it longer and more error

So for example you could use mpi for geogrid and metgrid and ungrib with no mpi.

Hi all !
I felt better time saving with mpi for geogrid, But not satisfactory with metgrid for my expectation.
But ungrib is not at all good with mpi as you mentioned.

But in my case, I am ungribbing ICON datasets which is in two parts as limitation of file size handling in ungrib. and It take much time (~45 min for 5 days initial condition) comparatively than any other cases.
Please upgrade the ungrib for better optimized suitation, if possible in the next release of WPS.
