Hi everyone,
I’m running tropical-cyclone simulations with WRF using GDAS analysis fields (0.25°), but—as many of you have pointed out before—GDAS does not include sea-surface temperature. The missing SST is degrading my typhoon intensity results, so I need an additional SST field that WPS can ingest easily.
What I’ve tried so far
• Downloaded the NOAA OISST v2.1 data from
NOAA 0.25-degree Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (OISST), Version 2.1
(specifically the directory …/sea-surface-temperature-optimum-interpolation/v2.1/access/avhrr).
• The files are daily NetCDF (*.nc) and require extra steps (ungrib or metgrid don’t read them directly).
What I’m looking for
Thanks a lot!

What I’m looking for
- A ready-to-use SST product in GRIB2 (or any format directly supported by ungrib.exe).
- Alternatively, a reliable workflow or tool to convert NetCDF SST to GRIB2/WPS format without losing metadata needed by ungrib.
Thanks a lot!
