WPS error The mandatory field TT was not found in any input data GFS

Hello everyone,

I’m new to WRF as well as to modeling and programming. I’m currently using WRF version 4.5.2 and trying to run the model using historical GFS data downloaded from the following sources:

gfs.0p25.2018110100.f000.grib2 — 226 MB

However, when running WPS I get the following error:

“The mandatory field TT was not found in any input data”.

I am downloading all the files available from these locations. I also noticed that these historical files are only about 215–226 MB, while the recent GFS data from:

run through WPS without any issues, and those files are around 540 MB.

Could someone please help me identify where I can download the complete historical GFS datasets (including all required fields for WPS), or suggest how I might resolve this error?

Thank you very much for any guidance or help!

Dear Dr. Ming Chen,

First of all, thank you very much for your previous clarifications and support. They have been very helpful.

I am currently running WPS/WRF using historical GFS data (0.25° resolution, November 1, 2018, cycle 00Z). The geogrid.exe step completes successfully, but ungrib.exe ends with the following error:

Name of source model => NCEP GFS Analysis
forrtl: severe (174): SIGSEGV, segmentation fault occurred

We have carefully verified the following:

* The GRIB2 files correspond to a single cycle (00Z)
* Forecast hours are complete and in chronological order (f000, f006, f012, f018)
* Symbolic links (GRIBFILE.AAA–AAD) are correctly created
* The Vtable corresponds to GFS (pressure-level data)
* The start_date and end_date in namelist.wps match the data period

Despite this, ungrib.exe consistently crashes after processing the inventories.

We noticed that the historical GFS files currently available are significantly smaller in size compared to older archived versions. Could this be related to a format change? Is there an updated Vtable required for these newer historical GFS files?

Any guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
