Hi WRF forum,

Is there any official information on the future of WRF?

I've heard a lot of questions on this topic, especially given the attention the FV3 based LAM models have been getting, and it would be great to get some clarity moving forward.

I'd appreciate any information.

Hi,
NCAR MMM has been considering to keep WRF in maintenance status because many people are still using WRF.
At the same time, the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) has been developed. This is a new-generation modeling system that can be applied for both global and regional simulations.
Details of MPAS can be found at MPAS. NCAR MMM provides community support for MPAS development and application.
