Discontinuity in parent grid (Two-way nested)

Hi everyone,

I modified the wrfrst file to replace half of the ocean with land. While the parent grid results are normal, I’m seeing discontinuities in specific humidity and temperature in the boundary layer when the nested grid (child grid) moves over the land area.
Attached are the specific humidity results for the lowest model level after 24 hours of simulation for both D01 and D02.
Has anyone encountered this issue before or knows how to resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
First just a note that we do not work on weekends, and it can sometimes take a few days for us to be able to respond, due to many other obligations we have. Please try to be patient with us.

When a restart is initiated, it uses the wrfrst* file, as well as the wrfbdy file, so unless you modified the wrfbdy file to exactly match the new land configuration in the wrfrst file, it will certainly cause discrepancies.

Hi,

Thank you for letting me know! I completely understand that you have many other obligations and don't work on weekends. I really appreciate your help and will patiently wait for your response.

I wanted to mention that this is an idealized experiment, so there's no wrfbdy file involved. Could you please advise on what I should check in this case? Thank you so much for your time and support!

Can you explain a little about why you need this land modification to be done as a restart, as opposed to a standard run?

I need to modify the surface parameters in the wrfrst file to simulate the typhoon making landfall. I am wondering if there might be an issue with the initialization of D02, leading to discontinuities between D01 and D02 variables. This discontinuity seems more prominent at 2-meter height levels.
