Possibility of using specified lateral conditions for idealized cases

Hi WRF experts/ users, is it possible to use the specified lateral boundary conditions for idealized conditions sans nesting?
If so, how do we do this?

We have never run ideal cases before with specified lateral boundary condition. Sorry that without any experiences I cannot provide more helpful information. Hope someone in the community may have done this before and can provide some information.
